Approaching Point Wild on Elephant Island's northern coast, in gale-force winds. Shackleton lost his ship and was beached here in January 1916; 22 men remained under first mate Frank Wild, living under a lifeboat for 4.5 months, while Shackleton sailed to South Georgia for help, returning in the tug Yelcho.
