A very short distance north of Brown Bluff is an old-ice glacier over Trepassey Bay, a small bay only 1.5km wide, named after the British ship that surveyed it in 1946-7. Recent geological activity has covered the ice in soil, protecting it to an extent from deterioration by the weather.
