On the southern edge of the eponymous square stands Raekoda, Tallinn's Town Hall: the only surviving gothic town hall in northern Europe. It was built between 1371-1404, and was the seat of political and economical power in the city until 1970 when it shifted out of Vanalinn. It was Heritage-listed in 1997.
