Looking up Oude Delftgracht (Old Delft canal), Delft's main north-south (and oldest) canal, excavated circa 1100, and extending to Delfshaven in Rotterdam 10km south. The town name Delft actually comes from an Old Dutch word meaning "to delve" or "to dig".
