One of a few buildings left built during the British rule is Frere Hall, located in the Bagh-e-Jinnah parklands to the south of Saddar. Built in 1865 and named after Sir Henry Bartle Frere, it served as Karachi's town hall and was a social and cultural magnet. It now serves as a both a library (lower floor) and an art gallery (upper floors).
