| Adjacent to the Grand Mosque stands the Doha Palace, the offical residence of the Emir of Qatar, currently Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He became Emir after his father abdicated in June 2013, the first ruler in three generations to ascend to power without resorting to a coup. |
