| The Imperial Palace on Praça XV de Novembro, built in 1743 for the governors of colonial Brazil; then used as a royal residence by the king of Portugal and Brazil from 1808; lastly as a palace of Emperors of Brazil from 1822-89. Today it serves as a cultural centre. |
