| To the north of Merdeka Square stands Merdeka Palace, one of six presidential palaces across Indonesia. The palace dates from the 1870s, and was a residence for the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies during the Dutch colonial era. It is the centre of the Indonesian executive authority. |
