| Eyjafjallajökull ("island mountains glacier") is an active stratovolcano, one of Iceland's largest, reaching 1,660m. The break in the northern caldera rim, seen here (centre-right of picture), is where the outlet glacier Gígjökull ("crater glacier") drained: it melted in the eruptions of 2010.
