| Remnants of the city's original fortified wall still exist, such as the Moorish Arco de Almedina (Almedina Gate). Behind it climbs a twisting, steep stairway known locally as Quembra Costa ("Backbreaker"), connecting the old town to the university district upon Coimbra's hills. |
