| Cardiff Castle, originally a Norman keep built on the ruins of a Roman fort, was transformed into a 19th century fantasy of a medieval palace, rebuilt between 1868-81. The owner, John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute, is credited with the revival of Cardiff at this time. |
