| At the eastern end of the city's National Mall stands the Capitol building, with the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial between it and its reflecting pool. It is the seat of the United States Congress, the legislative branch of the federal government. It was this side of the building that was stormed by the 6 January riots in 2021, two months after Trump's defeat in the 2020 presidential election. |
