Just over a kilometre away from the Stones of Stenness on the west of Orkney's Mainland island stands the Ring of Brodgar: a Neolithic henge of 27 surviving stones (out of an original 60) carved out of solid bedrock, set in a ring 104m in diameter. It has proved hard to age, but is believed to date from 2500BC.
