| The Pearl Monument previously marked Manama's northwestern corner. Pearls were important to pre-Islamic (Dilmun) Bahrain, as the Gulf was renown for their quality. Erected in 1982, it was torn down in March 2011 by the government, as it was a focus for Arab Spring protesters. |
