One of the landmarks of the Islamic quarter of Cairo are the twin minarets skirting the Zuweila Gate, from the last remaining sections of walls dating from 11th century Fatimid-era Cairo. It was named after a tribe of desert Berber warriors (the Zuwayla) charged with guarding it. |
