| Standing at the mouth of the gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai is the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Saint Catherine, built by Byzantine emperor Justinian I in the 6th century, and known as the world's oldest working Christian monastery. It was Heritage-listed in 2002. |
