| Standing on the old ramparts of Skansin (fort of Tórshavn), located on a hill east of the city's harbour, and built in the 1630s to protect against Ottoman pirate raids. The fort was expanded considerably in 1780 and went through a series of rebuilds for many years afterwards, even servving in WWII as the headquarters for British forces in the Faroes. |
