| The Girondins column at the western end of Place des Quinconces, one of Europe's largest city squares. It was erected between 1894 in memory of the Girondists (a political faction campaigning for the end of the monarchy) who fell victim of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution 100 years previous. |
