| The Gehaiden, the Meiji shrine's outer grounds, from the covered courtyard walls. The shrine itself is dedicated to the divine souls of emperor Meiji, 122nd emperor of Japan (r. 1867-1912), and his consort empress Shōken (died 1914), built originally in nagare-zukuri ("streamlined roof") style in 1920.
