| Kazan's Annunciation cathedral, across the street from the Kul-Sharif mosque. Built when tsar Ivan IV conquered Kazan in the mid-15th century, it was closed by the Communists in 1917, its stone bell tower demolished, allowed to fall into ruin, then renovated for 30 years and re-opened for worship in 2005. |
