Chinatown is a small, historic area of the city's Downtown area, along H and I Streets between 5th and 8th Streets NW. The area was once home to thousands of Chinese immigrants who in the current day have mostly moved away. In 1986, a paifang (Chinese gate) - the Friendship Archway, seen here - was built over H Street at the intersection with 7th Street.
