| The ruins of Toftanes, a Viking age dwelling, in Leirvík. Archeological excavations between 1982-7 revealed the ruins of a farmstead built here, dating back to 900AD. The main building (gravel floor, left and centre of picture) was roughly 20m long with curved walls, with additional outhouses (grass floor, right) and an outdoor cooking area build later. |
