| THe Iolani Palace, on South King Street, Honolulu, was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii, from king Kamehameha III (when he made Honolulu the capital of the kingdom in 1845) to queen Queen Lili'uokalani (until the overthrow of the kingdom in 1893). It was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1978, and is the only royal palace on US soil. |
