| Looking down the central nave of the Church of Saint Dominic. The church was damaged by the 1531 Lisbon earthquake and almost completely destroyed in the 1755 earthquake; rebuilding only ended in 1807. A fire in 1959 gutted the church, destroying paintings and statues and killing two firemen; the subsequent restoration left much of damage unrepaired as a commemoration. |
