| Carpenters' Hall is a key meeting place in early US history. Completed in 1775 for Philadelphia's carpenter's guild, the First Continental Congress met here in 1774. The Province of Pennsylvania's official declaration of independence from the British Empire, and establishment as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was proclaimed here in June 1776. |
