| The Liberty Bell with its iconic crack, a symbol of American independence. Originally placed in the steeple of Independence Hall (seen in the background, centre of picture), it today has its own museum (the Liberty Bell Center) on Independence Mall. In its early years, it rang to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens about public meetings and proclamations. |
