| The Chicago "L" (short for "elevated"), running on elevated track over city streets, seen here running a Green Line service on the corner of Wabash and Lake Streets. The oldest sections of the Chicago "L" started operations in 1892 in Chicago's Loop area; later sections were built at grade level, or in tunnels. You can easily hear (and feel) the next service on the street surface. |
