| Overlooking the Piazza della Signoria is the impressive Old Palace, the traditional seat of Florentine government, built early in the 14th century. The landmark 94m Torre d'Arnolfo was once the cell of the heretic monk Girolamo Savonarola in 1498, who was later hanged and burned for heresy in this square. |
