| The main entrance gate into the capital - inaugurated during the Independence celebrations in 1964 - through the fortifying wall across the neck of the Sceberras peninsula. The City Gate overlooks the bridge over a deep moat, called the Valletta Great Ditch, which used to protect the walls many centuries ago.
