| The concourse just outside Riddarholmskyrkan was named after the Swedish statesman Birger Magnusson - later elevated to jarl (earl) - who founded Stockholm in 1252, and became regent of the next king of Sweden (his own son Valdemar, r. 1250-75) afterwards until 1266; his statue marks its centre.
