| The Lincoln Memorial's central chamber houses the colossal seated 6m-tall figure of Abraham Lincoln, sitting in contemplation on a 3.5m pedestal, weighing 170 tons and carved out of Georgia white marble, unveiled on the Memorial's opening in 1922. The north and south side-chambers display carved inscriptions of Lincoln's second inaugural address and his Gettysburg Address. |
