| Further up the mountain and carved from solid rock is the Upper Gavit, completed in 1288. Like the gavit preceding the Katoghikeh church, four pillars support a spherical dome with an opening carved to let in sunlight. It also functioned as a mausoleum, with tombstones still on the floor. |
