| Not far from the Stanley Town Hall stands a memorial to the 1982 Falklands War. In April 1982, the military junta of Argentina invaded the Falklands (and also South Georgia) to establish the disputed sovereignty it claimed over them; 10 weeks later they were defeated by British forces. |
