| The Medicis had the Vasari Corridor built above the Ponte Vecchio's stalls to connect the Palazzo Vecchio with the Palazzo Pitti in 1565. It has mainly kept its original condition due to the fact it was the only Florentine bridge over the river Arno to escape bombing by the Germans in WWII.
