| The Stalinist-style Palace of Culture lies along Skanderbeg Square's eastern border. Construction of the building started as a "gift" from the Soviets - the first brick symbolically being placed by Nikita Khruschev - in 1959, but was finished without them six years later after the 1961 Sino-Soviet split. |
