| The Governor's Palace, occupying the north of Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia, at sunset. Built between 1901-5, it overlooked a garden before it was paved over and the piazza was extended to the sea (left of picture). Today it is the office of the region's Commissioner: Trieste is the capital of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
