| On the corner of Benjamin Franklin Parkway and 18th Street is the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, head church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia, built between 1846-64. It is the largest Catholic church in the state, with the dome and Palladian facade added after 1850. It has held two papal masses: with John Paul II in 1979, and with Francis in 2015. |
