| Walking along Marteburg through the Schnoor quarter, to the east of Bremen's old town, the only part of it that has preserved a medieval character. The neighbourhood owes its name to old handicrafts associated with shipping; the word schnoor comes from Low German, meaning string, describing the quarter's houses appearing to be strung together on a string. |
