| Looking north from the Kaiserschleuse (Emperor's lock, linking the harbour with the Weser River) stands Bremerhaven's landmark brick Gothic lighthouse, the oldest operative lighthouse on the mainland along Germany's North Sea shore, dating from 1856. It was electrified in 1925, automated in 1951, and is still functional. It was listed for local monument protection in 1984. |
