| The neo-Gothic Mayor Smidt Memorial Church, named for the Bremen mayor Johann Smidt who arranged to buy the territory around the mouth of the Weser from the Kingdom of Hanover in 1827. Completed in 1870 and a landmark for river traffic, it was badly damaged in WWII air raids and carefully restored between 1955-60. It was listed for local monument protection in 1978. |
