| In front of the Government Buildings facing Victoria Parade stands a statue to Ratu Epenisa Seru Cakobau, a Fijian chief and Vunivalu (warlord) who united Fiji's warring tribes under his leadership to establish a united Fijian kingdom. He become its first king in 1871, but then ceded the islands to the United Kingdom in 1874. He lived quietly until his death in 1883. |
