| The luxurious Grand Pacific Hotel, on the main seafront along Victoria Parade, built in 1914 by the director of the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand to serve its passengers on its trans-Pacific routes. After a period of decline, the hotel was sold off in 1958, then closed by the government in 2000, eventually restored to a five-star hotel and re-opened in 2014. |
