| To the south of Albert Park is Thurston Gardens, Fiji's botanical gardens (and previously known as the Suva Botanical Gardens, but changed its name to honour of the fifth Governor of Fiji, Sir John Bates Thurston, governor from 1888-97). They were established on the original site of Suva that burned down in 1843 in one of the bloodiest fights in Fiji's history. |
