| About 2km further west of Sossusvlei lies Deadvlei (meaning "dead marsh"), a white clay pan and previous oasis (before the Tsauchab River changed its course), now punctuated by blackened branches of dead camel-thorn trees. Though not petrified, the wood has not decomposed due to how dry it is. |
