| Standing in the shadows of the Martinitoren in the north-eastern corner of the city stands the Prince's Court. Previously a church, it was rebuilt in 1569 into an episcopal palace for the bishop of Groningen, then again in 1594 into the Herenhof (Master's Court) for Groningen's governor, and eventually for the princes of Orange-Nassau, whose descendents ruled the Netherlands. |
