| The Goudkantoor (Gold Office), on Waagstraat next to Groningen's town hall. Built in 1635 as a waag (weigh house), it became a goldworker's office in 1814, where hallmarks were issued to certify genuine gold. The text on the building - date Caesari quae sunt Caesaris in Latin, or "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" - refers to its original function. Today it is a restaurant. |
