Nijmegen's waag, or weighing house, dating from 1612, on the northern side of the Grote Markt (Great Market Square). It was constructed to weigh the town's goods (mostly dairy products, particularly butter) to tally tax payable on it. The ground floor later became a meat hall, and until 1885 the city's military guard was housed on the upper floor. Today it houses a restaurant.
