On the southern corner of Alexanderplatz on Rathausstraße stands the neo-Renaissance Red Town Hall, built between 1861-9, named from its facade of red clinker bricks. Badly damaged by Allied air raids in WWII and rebuilt between 1951-6 as the East Berlin Town Hall, today it houses Berlin's mayor and the offices of the Berlin Senate.
