| The landmark St. Martin's Tower, seen across Grote Markt from Groningen's town hall balcony, is the 97m-tall bell tower of the Martinikerk (Martin's Church), the city's oldest, dating from the 13th century. The tower has a slight lean, due to having shallow foundations, and in its third incarnation: the previous two were destroyed by lightning strikes in the 13th and 15th centuries. |
