| In Zuiderpark (South Park) along Singelgracht (the Singel canal), stands the remnants of the Baselaar bastion, part of the city's old fortifications. During the Siege of 's-Hertogenbosch in 1629, Dutch troops successfully breached the walls here and took the city from Spanish occupying forces: Dutch troops built nearby Orange Bastion to prevent the same mistake happening again. |
